State Congress spokesperson Ashok Samal on Monday welcomed the newly-introduced system of online sale of liquor instead of its sale across counters at shops as demanded by traders in the State.
The online sale and home delivery of liquor would effectively prevent black-marketing of alcohol as the records of the sale would remain evident as honest trade, Samal argued.
He opposed the traders’ proposal for home delivery of liquor by their own agents as it might involve unfair transactions. Instead, the Government’s original decision for home delivery through commercial, professional agencies like Swiggy and Zomato should be carried out, he said.
Samal, however, questioned the decision for online sale of liquors costing Rs 1,000 and onwards. The number of consumers for liquors valued at less that this amount is perhaps the highest, he said, and demanded that no one is deprived of the new system of availability of alcohol.
The consumers of less-cost liquors are likely to become victims of spurious alcohol in black market, Samal warned.
