Determined to expose the State Government’s claim of social security for all, Congress workers on Monday staged a demonstration in front of the Rayagada Collectorate over the death of three persons at Sipijodi and Talaparikhala villages under Kashipur block in the district reportedly after consuming a gruel prepared from mango kernel.
The demonstrators led by Jeypore MlA Tara Prasad Bahinipati demanded resignation of Health and Family Welfare Minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak while seeking adequate compensation for the family members of the deceased.
The protestors also demanded transfer of the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) and the Sub-Collector.
“Neither the State administration nor the district administration is concerned about the wellbeing of tribals and other poor people. The death of three tribals after consumning a porridge prepared out of mango kernel has exposed the State Government’s claim of social security for all,” said Bahinipati.
later, a delegation led by Bahinipati met district Collector Guha Poonam Tapas Kumar and submitted to her a memorandum, which stated that despite ten sanctioned posts of doctors in Kashipur block only one has been posted.
Besides Bahinipati, former Zilla Parishad President Bijay Gamang and District Congress Committee president Durga Prasad Panda led the demonstration. Notably, in the last four days, Ranjan Majhi (12), Narsingha Majhi (60) of Sipijodi village and Majhiani Majhi of Talaparikhala village have died after consuming gruel prepared from dry mango kernel.
