Protesting the police favoritism for BJD supporters, about 1,000 Congress activists led by Aul MlA Debendranath Sharma on Monday gheraoed the Rajkanika police station.

They alleged that the Rajkanika police allegedly by remaining hand in glove with the ruling party supporters of the locality were harassing the Congress supporters. The police were not lodging complaints when they used to be against a BJD man. Even the police were not arresting the accused if they belong to the ruling party, they said.

The police here reportedly drew the ire of the Congress men after they allegedly filed a false case against 33 Congress supporters in a house burning incident on October 19 last at Kanjikhai village.

According to Ali MlA Sharma, one Kuntala Behera, a BJD supporter, allegedly constructed a house on the land of Karunakar Behera , who belongs to the Congress at Kanjikhai village under Rajkanika police station. Karunakar, however, brought a status quo order from SDM court on the disputed land to prevent further construction. But violating the court order, Kuntala built the house. Karunakar approached the Rajkanika police. But the police remained silent and allegedly filed a case against Karunakar.

The MlA threatened stir against the police bias. The Congress activists also submitted a memorandum to the SDPO of Pattamundai for the SP.

It may be noted here that on October 27 last, former Minister, Pratap Keshari Deb and his BJD supporters staged a dharana in front of the Rajkanika police station demanding arrest of accused who ransacked and torched Kuntala’s house.
