Congress demands exact figure of BPl families

Published on:

Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) spokesperson Ashok Kumar Samal on Wednesday dared the State Government to confirm the exact number of persons having Below Poverty line (BPl) cards in the State.

Alleging that the repots of CAG and Economic Survey on the number of BPl card holders varied from each other, Samal said that while the percentage of BPl card holders of the State stood at 39.90 per cent in the year 2008-09,

2010-11 and 2011-12 as per the Economic survey report, it decreased to 37 per cent in 2012-13 as per the same report while there are 38.75 lakh BPl families staying in the State as per the State Government's own report.

"While the State Government reports show that there are 38.75 lakh BPl families, the CAG report tabled in the Assembly on December 15 last revealed that the Central Government is providing 35 kg rice to 27.75 lakh BPl families.

"So, which figure is correctIJ We urge the Government to come up with the actual figure," added Samal.
