Cong workers, cops clash before DGP office

Hundreds of Congress workers clashed with police forces in front of the State police headquarters here on Friday when the former were not allowed to enter into the high-security DGP office.

The Congress workers under the leadership of the party’s city chief Md Moqim had come in a rally to submit a memorandum to DGP KB Singh demanding action against the Southern Range IG and the Kandhmal SP for the Gumudumha police firing.

As the slogan-shouting Congress workers reached the main gate of the police headquarters, jostling and pushing between the deployed policemen at the closed gate, and tomatoes and water pouches were hurled at the policemen from behind, there was a clash between the police and the agitators.

The police, however, brought the situation under control, aftere which a delegation headed by the City Congress chief was allowed inside the headquarters to submit their memorandum to the DGP. “The DGP has assured us that he would take appropriate action on our demands,” Moqim informed.
