The State Mahila Congress on Tuesday held a State-wide agitation protesting the State Government’s failure in providing drinking water to people.
Hundreds of leaders and workers of all district units of the Mahila Congress staged protests in front of Collector or Sub-Collector offices in their respective districts. Protests were conducted in the party’s all 33 organisational districts across the State.
A large number of women led by wing’s State president Sasmita Behera staged a protest rally here. “While People in large parts of the State are struggling to get even a drop of drinking water and the situation is worsening in each passing day, it is disappointing that the State Government did little to resolve the problem,” alleged Behera.
She further alleged that water-borne jaundice has claimed many lives due to want of safe drinking water supply in cities. The situation in rural areas of interior Odisha has worsened. “It is disappointing that people in interior parts of the State are depending on Chuahs for water. The Government’s inaction has helped spread of water-borne diseases,” she lamented.
We want that all villages be supplied potable drinking water uninterruptedly during this summer and old pipes in towns and cities be repairs at the earliest so that spread of jaundice would be checked.
She said the party would intensify its stir further if the Government fails to ensure water to people soon.
