At a time when the NDA Government at the Centre and the BJD Government in the State are celebrating second anniversary of their respective Governments, the Congress on Friday announced to organise ‘Dhikkar Divas’ (Reprimand Day) across the State to highlight the failure of both the Central and State Governments on June 10.
PCC president Prasad Harichandan made the announcement while addressing an impressive Samavesh at Bhawanipatna, Kalahandi district headquarters, that was also attended by AICC spokesperson Bhakta Das and party State in-charge BK Hariprasad.
“A Dhikar Divas will be organised in all 314 blocks of the State on June 10,” said Harichandan.
Terming Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Thursday Vikash Utsav at Baleswar as “Bukwas Utsav”, Harichandan slammed Modi for his indifference towards the State and also targeted the State Government for failing to take up issues at appropriate forums.
The Congress leaders later went to the district Collector’s office and submitted a memorandum seeking fulfilment of their eight-point charter of demands that included a wagon factory at Narla in Kalahandi district, a Government medical college in the district, compensation to the farmers who have committed suicide due to crop loss and loan burden and inclusion of all the eligible beneficiaries under the NFSA.
“Many farmers have committed suicide due to drought and crop loss. Neither their families have been given crop insurance nor have they received any other compensation. Thousands of deserving families have been denied NFSA cards. In Bhawanipatna, people have been displaced from their homes for road expansion but without any compensation. This is what the Naveen Government has done for the poor of Kalahandi,” said former MP Bhakta Charan Das.
