Cong to oppose CM visit for Gurupriya opening

The Congress on Friday said it would oppose Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s visit to Malkangiri district for inauguration of the Gurupriya bridge.

Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) working president Pradeep Majhi said the Chief Minister’s visit would be opposed until basic problems of tribal people are not addressed. Besides, Majhi said there have been many allegations of corruption in construction of the Gurupriya bridge but the Government did not take any action against anyone.

Demanding fulfilment of a five-point charter of demands, Majhi alleged the district administration of turning a blind eye to the issues of tribals.

Members of the party’s district unit would stage a dharna in front of the district Collectorate on July 9 pressing for fulfilment of various demands.

“For the past one year, we have been demanding school education for 2,000 tribal students and land pattas (RoR) to people residing in forest areas. But, a deaf ear has been turned to the demands,” Majhi added.
