Cong to make demonetisation GP poll plank

The Congress would highlight the plight the common men faced on account of the Centre’s demonetisation decision supported by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

This was stated by PCC president Prasad Harichandan after a meeting of the party’s district presidents and other office-bearers.

Advised by the AICC, the State Congress on Thursday convened a meeting of the district presidents and office-bearers of the party and prepared a detailed roadmap to reach out to people with the demonetisation issue.

The AICC has appointed 11 convenors, one for each organisational district, for the purpose.

On January 9, the Mahila Congress would stage a rally in protest against demonetisation. Party leaders from across the State would also join a national-level protest that the Congress has planned on January 11 in New Delhi.

“The common man is suffering due to demonetisation by the Modi-led Central government, and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has also supported the decision. The Congress will launch protest against both the Central and State Governments,” said OPCC chief Harichandan.

However, Odisha in-charge BK Hariprasad and leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra and other MlAs were not present at the meeting. Mishra did not attend the meeting despite he was named in the list of conveners. Out of the party’s 33 organisational districts, 19 district presidents attended the meeting.
