The Congress on Wednesday organised a Chasi Panchayat at Dangarchhinchi near Jeypore in Koraput district to hold discussions on farmers’ problems. Party Odisha-in-charge BK Hariprasad, co-in-charge Subhankar Sarkar, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Prasad Harichandan, Jeypore MlA Tara Prasad Bahinipati and other party leaders inquired about different problems of farmers of the district.
At the Chasi Panchayat, the leaders decided that they would raise farmers’ issues at the State-level and demand that the State Government look into the issues seriously. They also decided that the party would intensify its agitation and dharnas across the State to make people aware about the Government’s apathy towards farmers.
Hariprasad said the new PCC chief has taken some new initiatives to connect with party workers and common people. The party has even conducted some rallies, especially farmers’ conventions, and received comments and feedback about its recent activities, he added. “We have received ample of suggestions, feedbacks and comments from our party workers and common people which will be sent to our party high command Sonia Gandhi. After that, we will make our roadmap for strengthening of the party in the State,” said Hariprasad.
Harichandan said farmers’ demands fall in the deaf ears of the State Government, but the Congress will not sit idle by leaving the farmers’ fate in the hand of millers and Government officials. “We will take the farmers’ issues to the streets so that the deaf State Government can hear the farmers’ cry,” he warned.
