Cong to hold stir before Gridco on June 19

Odisha was the first State in the country to bring power reforms. The objective was to provide quality power at affordable prices to the people. But now, the situation is totally opposite. The power tariff in Odisha is now the highest in the country, said the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) on Wednesday.

The Stat Government is calming that it has spent Rs 20,000 crore on power infrastructure in the last 10 years. Out of the Rs 20,000 crore, Rs 5,000 crore has been given to the Tata Power for improving infrastructure. Then, where has been the rest Rs 15,000 spent? The Government should give an account of the detailed expenditure, asked PCC president Sarat Patnaik.

The Congress would hold a demonstration before the Gridco office on June 19 against the unscheduled power cuts and hike in power tariff.

The power company should give electricity to consumers every month between the dates of 1 to 5, said senior Congress leader Panchanan Kanugo.

Congress Media Cell chairman Ganeshwar Behera said the company should stop coercive collection of faulty bills from the power consumers.
