'Cong tickets to those working at grassroots'

Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Niranjan Patnaik on Wednesday urged party members to go work in the villages as only those working at the grassroots level would get party tickets in the 2019 elections.

Patnaik said this while presiding over a meeting of the newly-appointed District Congress Committee (DCC) presidents and working presidents of 11 southern districts at the Congress Bhawan here.

“Only members working at the grassroots level and in contact with the people will get party tickets for the forthcoming 2019 elections. Those sitting in Bhubaneswar will not get party ticket to contest the elections,” the OPCC president said.

Patnaik said the district committees now would submit a progress report every 15 days and in two three months the PCC would come to know who amongst the party is working sincerely for the people. This way Congress would grow from strength to strength, he said.

PCC working president Pradeep Majhi said every Zilla Parishad zone would be considered as block and new presidents appointed in each of the ZP zones.

"The appointment of presidents will be over by the end of this month whereas the formation of booth level committee is likely to get completed by July 10," Majhi added. He also admitted that there were differences among the party men in two or three districts units. This will be solved by Thursday.

The presidents and working presidents of Ganjam, Gajapati, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Jagatsinghpur, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Kandhamal, Boudh, Kalahandi and Jharsuguda districts attended the meeting.

The PCC president would also hold the meeting of the presidents and working presidents of other 23 organisational districts on Thursday.
