As expected, Opposition members protested the Governor's Speech and raised farmer issues in the State Assembly on the first day of the Budget Session on Tuesday.
While Governor Dr SC Jamir was delivering his speech, the main Opposition Congress staged a walkout stating that the Government is presenting rosy pictures through the Governor’s address though it has failed in every sector.
"The House is being shown a rosy picture, Hence, we stage a walkout now," said leader of Opposition (Congress) Narasingha Mishra. Soon, he and other Congress MlAs moved out of the House.
Again, Congress members trouped into the Well of the House when Government Chief Whip Amar Prasad Satpahty presented a Motion of Thanks to the Governor for his speech.
Opposition Chief Whip (Congress) Tara Prasad Bahinipati and others of his party raising farmers issues blamed the State Government for farmers’ suicide and demanded that Government give 3 'Ps' (price, prestige and pension) to farmers at the earliest. They made this demand while being in the Well of the House.
During this time, Satpathy was narrating what the Governor pointed out about the Government’s achievements.
Speaker Pradeep Kumar Amat adjourned the House at 1.10 pm till 10.30 am on Wednesday. Discussion of the Governor's speech would be held for two days from Wednesday.
