Protesting a rise in the cases of missing children in the State along with callous and indifferent attitude of the State Government in providing justice to 5-year-old Nayagarh girl Pari, who was abducted and brutally murdered in July this year, hundreds of Congress activists led by DCC president Anshuman Mohanty, former Minister Ganeswar Behera and former MLA Debendra Sharma gheraoed the SP office of Kendrapada on Monday. According to Anshuman Mohanty, the law and order situation had gone to its nadir during the tenure of Naveen Patnaik- led BJD Government in the State.
More than 11 children, including girls, are kidnapped ,raped and sexual abused in the State in every 24 hours which is a telltale sign of the worst law an order in Odisha, he lamented. As per the NCRB data, while the total number of kidnapping and abduction of children in the State was 3,185 in 2017, it rose twice as much to 7,012 till 2019 . To add insult to injury, 82 percent of accused managed to get acquitted in these cases, informed former Minister Ganeswar Behera.
Later, the Congress leaders submitted a memorandum to the SP of Kendrapada for the Governor urging expediting the inquiry in Pari murder case and bringing the culprits to book.
