Blaming the PCC leadership, senior Congress leader of the Champua Assembly constituency Sanatan Mahakud resigned from the party on Sunday.Mahakud had been leading the Joda block Congress since 30 years and his hard work and popularity was instrumental in the victory of the Congress in the Champua constituency.
In the last elections, he lost the Champua polls by a slender margin of 65 votes to the party’s rebel candidate Jitu Patnaik.Mahakud’s resignation along with thousands of his followers has dealt a blow to the Keonjhar district Congress.
He is preparing to contest the coming elections from Champua as an Independent candidate. It may be noted that Dhanurjay laguri, a former MlA from Champua along with his son Jaswant Singh laguri had left the Congress to join the BJD in the last elections.Jitu Pattnaik has also joined the BJD recently.
