Cong intensifies stir to dissolve CMC Council

Published on:

Intensifying its demand to dissolve the present Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) Council, the Congress on Tuesday submitted a memorandum to RDC (Central) Arabinda Padhee in this regard.

Alleging that the council headed by the BJD is wrapped up in huge corruption, the Congress also demanded a CBI inquiry into the embezzlement by BJD corporators and CMC officials of funds meant for developmental work.

Congress city president Md Moqim said the BJD corporators are booked by the State Vigilance in connection with the relief material loot incident for which the State Government is contemplating to delay the CMC elections. The present council was formed in February 2009 and, hence, steps should have been taken by now to form the next council, Moquim said.

“The Vigilance is also not investigating into the relief material case properly,” he said, alleging that the prosecution is trying its best to keep the local BJD MlAs and city Mayor out of the investigation purview.

Hundreds of Congress workers came in a procession holding placards and shouting slogans against the CMC Council and State Government to the office of the RDC and staged protest before handing over the memorandum to the RDC.
