Demanding immediate removal of the
Abhayachnadpur police station IIC and the Jagatsinghpur SP for their
alleged involvement in the custodial death of one Manoranjan last week,
the Chhatra Congress on Saturday staged a demonstration before the
DGP office in Cuttack and submitted a memorandum to him. The DGP
assured a six-member Chhatra Congress delegation that he would hold
an impartial inquiry and take action against the officials if found
responsible.
The student leaders alleged that Odisha has got a dubious distinction of
rising custodial deaths. In 2019, the State was placed No-6 in this regard
in the country. The Chief Minister has failed to have control on his own
department.
Chhatra Congress State president Yasher Nawaaz warned the State
Government to remove the officials within a week or else the Chhatra
Congress would gherao the Naveen Niwas.
