The Congress on Monday announced to stage dharna in front of all police stations in Nabarangpur and Koraput districts on Tuesday in protest against the alleged police atrocities on tribal, Dalit and common people of the undivided Koraput district.

Jointly addressing a Press conference here, Pradesh Congress Committee vice-president and Nabarangpur MP Pradeep Majhi and former MlA Taraprasad Bahinipati said, “During the 14 years of BJD rule, a total of 726 innocent youths have been implicated in false cases and they have been tortured in the name of Maoists. Now, the police torture towards the  tribal youths has turned into a daily state of affairs in Malkangiri district. It has been marked that the youths if once go to the police custody are not returning home.” Stating that the BJD has turned anti-tribal in whole of its ruling period, the Congress leaders informed that a team led by former minister Ganeswar Behera visited the Malkangiri district and conducted an on-the-spot inquiry into the alleged police atrocity on the tribals. Majhi and Bahinipati said families of the missing youths have alleged that they are being murdered with an ill-intention. They said the Congress workers would stage sit-ins in front of all the police stations in the above two districts from 11 am to 1 pm on Tuesday.
