Cong decries Centre’s decision on paddy MSP

The Pradesh Kisan Congress on Thursday resented the decision of the Central Government of raising the paddy MSP to only Rs 100.

Kisan Congress State president Amiya Pattanaik said it would not give any benefit to farmers of Odisha because when they spend Rs 2,344 for getting a quintal of paddy, the Centre has fixed only Rs 2,040. It shows farmers lose Rs 304 per quintal of paddy.

Pattanaik alleged that Prime Minister Modi’s promise of doubling farmers’ income based on the Swaminathan Commission recommendations has proved futile.

The Samajwadi Party warned to protest against the decision of the Central Government before the Raj Bhavan. Party State president Rabi Behera urged the State Government to put pressure on the Centre in coordination with other paddy-producing States for hiking the MSP.
