In the newly-formed Attabira NAC in Bargarh district, where elections were held recently, an interesting situation has arisen, particularly for the BJD as far as the post of the civic body’s chairperson is concerned. The post is reserved for a SC woman whereas no BJD candidate of this category has been elected.
So, even if the BJD, being the State’s ruling party, employs all its tricks to form the council, it is almost certain that the party cannot get support of the an elected Congress SC woman candidate to do so.
Out of the total 12 seats of the NAC, the BJD and the Congress have bagged six each. The Congress with help of a single elected BJD nominee is expected to form the council. The BJP was totally routed in the elections with the party beig not in a contesting position either with the BJD or the Congress.
