Protesting the Oscar chit fund scam, the Congress Ganjam district unit held a rally from the Congress Bhawan to the Rukuni Cinema Hall here on Friday.
The activists later staged a demonstration in front of the cinema hall by ripping and burning the posters of actor Anubhav Mohanty. They also burnt effigies of Brahmapur MP and actor Siddhant Mohapatra, actors Anubhav Mohanty and Papu Pompom and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
The demonstrators alleged that the Oscar chit fund company managed to expand its business by using the actors for its endorsement in many States and duped many poor gullible people of their hard-earned money. Many other film personalities are also involved in the scam, alleged Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) secretary Bikram Panda.
The party demanded immediate arrest of the actors, who are allegedly involved in the scam, and also the Chief Minister. Among others, former Union Minister Chandra Sekhar Sahu and party leaders Bhagaban Gantayat, Durga Prasad Panda and Gita Madhoi were present.
