Cong blames Govt for delay in local body polls

The Pradesh Congress Committee president Pritam Singh alleged that the State Government was holding local body polls due to intervention of the High Court. The issues related to Roorkee, Haridwar and Bazpur which had caused delay in the polls are still unresolved. He alleged that the Government unnecessarily delayed the local body polls.

Addressing the media here, he said that the delay will benefit the Congress because the people have understood that the BJP Governments at the Centre and State had failed on public welfare issues.

Apart from making cuts in schemes introduced by the previous Congress State Government, the Government under Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat had done little more. He also criticised the Central Government for not fulfilling its electoral promises.

It should be mentioned here that on Monday, the Congress had held a meeting to discuss candidatures for the local body polls for the Garhwal region. On Tuesday, the same issue was deliberated upon for the Kumaon region. The party will soon announce the names of its candidates for the elections. The leader of opposition in the Vidhan Sabha, Indira Hridayesh also expressed her views on the occasion.
