Hundreds of villagers of Daruthenga gram panchayat on Wednesday gathered at the dumping yard site at Bhuasuni and didn’t allow any garbage-laden vehicle to the site.

Though they had been opposing dumping of garbage there, the villagers blocked the road connecting to Bhuasuni and sent all tractors and BMC garbage carriers back to the city.

“We will never allow the BMC to set up a soling waste dumping yard here. From today, we will not allow any vehicle carrying garbage from city to here. We want the site be shifted from here,” said the agitating villagers.

It may be noted that the BMC has decided to set up a waste-to-energy plant at Bhuasuni near Daruthenga. The villagers' reaction came a week after the BMC decided to shift the designated dumping site from Daruthenga to Tulasadeipur, three km from current site.

They said there are villages between the new dumping site and the site for waste processing plant. The waste will pass through transportation vehicles through the villages to reach the plant and there will pollution on the way, said a villager.
