The Bharat Jodo-Odisha Parivartan Yatra spearheaded by Pradesh Congress Committee president Sarat Patnaik reached here on Tuesday. Congress members led by Balangir MLA Narasingha Mishra welcomed it and marched through the town.
The Bharat Jodo Yatra, which has been launched by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in September from Trivandrum, aims to spread the party’s objectives and unite the country.
In Odisha, the State Congress’ own Bharat Jodo Yatra has so far covered 1,000 km. It focuses on the failure of the BJP Government at the Centre in keeping its promise like jobs to 2 crore youths and Rs 15 lakh in each account and protests the hike in gas price. It also alleges that the State’s BJD Government, which has ruled for 22 long years, has betrayed people in providing adequate healthcare and addressing the issue of rising unemployment.
This was stated by OPCC president Patnaik to the media, adding that the Yatra would reach Bhubaneswar on January 29. “With people's blessings, the Congress would come to power in the State with at least 90 Assembly seats from the present nine, he asserted.
