The Congress on Friday announced Madhusmita Acharya as the party’s candidate for the post of Mayor of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) in the electionsscheduled on March 24.
The Bhubaneswar District Congress had recommended three names,RashmiMohapatra, Subhadra Mishra and Madhusmita Acharya, to the selection committee of Pradesh Congress Committee, which approved Acharya as its candidate. JatniMLA Suresh Kumar Routray officially announced Acharya’s name.
Madhusmita Acharya, a former president of the Kamala Nehru College Students’ Union, an entrepreneur, a sportsperson and an Odishi dancer, is the daughter-in-law of former Congress MLA late KangaliCharanPanda. She was assisting in the poll management while Panda was contesting the elections earlier.
Two days ago, the Congress had announced GiribalaBehera as its Mayor candidate for the Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC).
