A workshop on the Millennium Development Goal (MDG) was organised here wherein speakers viewed that concerted efforts need to be taken by both Government and private agencies to achieve the eight prescribed goals. The goals include eradication of poverty, universal primary education, women empowerment, environmental protection, eradication of HIV/AIDS and other communicable diseases, reduction of IMR and MMR. A total of 24 indicators have been set by the UN to achieve these goals.

Over 100 school and college students and representatives of various organisations participated the workshop to mark the Wada Na Todo Abhiayan under the ‘Global Call for Action 2015’. WaterAid regional head Bishakha Bhanja, social scientist Sashiprava Bindhani, CYSD chairman PK Sahu, RCDC director Asim Mahapatra, journalist Bighneswar Sahu and Dillip Subudhi had deliberated on various indicators of MDG.

Some students Sasmita Bhoi, Manoranjan Maharana, Md Hyder, Ashutosh Mohapatra, Madhusmita Sahu and Smrutisikha raised issues like lack of quality education, water and sanitation, various communicable diseases, and suggested various measures. A charter of demands suggesting measures for hunger free nation, human and environmental protection, combating climate change, health and education for all, eradicating child labour, eradicating gender-based violence, safe drinking water and sanitation for all was prepared by the participants. It was later submitted Governor Dr SC Jamir through the Khordha district Collector.
