Delhi-based sports development organisation Pro4Sport Solutions (P4SS) held a two-day community coaching course for young sport enthusiasts at rural development organisation Gram Vikas’s headquarters at village  Mohuda, 5 km from here on Saturday and Sunday. This was the second in the series of P4SS coach training workshops that are being delivered to educate and develop young sports coaches in local communities in the region.

Speaking about the initiative, Gram Vikas executive director Joe Madiath said sport is a vehicle for youth development and this course is a great opportunity for the youth of this region to learn social responsibility and leadership skills.

“The community coaching course is part of the Khel Vikas (sport development) movement that we are pioneering in the State. Through Khel Vikas, we want to ensure holistic development of youth in tribal and rural areas,” said Joe.

The course includes elements such as sport-specific training, time management, space management, leadership skills and communication, among others. The emphasis of the course is to develop community coaches in the sport of cricket, volleyball, and badminton, which are popular in the region.

The course has been developed in-house by the team of P4SS, who is qualified from international sporting bodies such as England and Wales Cricket Board, UK Sport, Coaching Association of Canada and Australian Sports Commission. Fifteen young participants have joined in the course.
