The Odisha Sports and Youth Affairs Department is all set to host the 21st Commonwealth Table Tennis Championship at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium here from Wednesday.
Just a day before, Pakistan, Ghana and Guyana teams pulled out and the number of participating countries have come down to 12. While Pakistan faced some visa issues, Ghana and Guyana failed to obtain government clearance.
While this may have taken some sheen off the championships which began with 17 entries and Uganda and Jersey had withdrawn citing the same reason as Ghana and Guyana earlier.
The final list of nations that are participating in the competition include Australia, Bangladesh, Cyprus, England, Malaysia, India, Sri Lanka, Nigeria, Scotland, South Africa, Singapore and Wales.
Police said elaborate arrangements have been made for security of the players and a total of 10 platoons of police would be deployed around the stadium.
The cops will be discharging their duties in two shifts and two Additional DCPs would supervise the security arrangements.
These apart, arrangements have been made for smooth traffic management in the city during championship and parking arrangements have been made at Christian Field and upper Balijatra Ground in the city.
The event, to be organised by Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) and International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF), will conclude on July 22.
