The smart card based common city payment system will yield many benefits for the Smart City denizens here.
It will help use transport, parking, recreational and amusement areas of the BMC and Bhubaneswar Development Plan area, besides facilitating easy transactions in respect of civic bill payments, utility payments (water and electricity), retail and other payments.
The targets are that 75 per cent of fare box revenue will be collected through smart cards and 100 per cent of buses (public and private operators) with fare reader systems. Similarly, 100 per cent fees to be collected for parking lots accepting common fare card.
Hence, the denizens need not travel to pay bills as the bills can be paid at neighbourhood stores, thus eliminating travel and time cost. Services can be delivered at these points like property tax collection etc. thus bringing huge efficiency and monetary gains.
