Commerce grads disqualified for OAV teacher posts

Published on:

: The Commerce graduates have resented their deprivation from applying for teacher and Principal posts in the Odisha Adarsh Vidyalayas (OAVs), an advertisement for which has been released recently.

The OAVs are under the Odisha Adarsh Vidyalayas Sangathan Sangathan (OAVS), a brainchild of CM Naveen Patnaik and are a highly sought-after educational institutions in the State at present. The OAVS operates under the School and Mass Education Department of the State Government.

Recently, an advertisement for filling of 1,010 Principal and teacher posts has been released where the qualifications of the candidates have remained bachelor's degree with BEd as mandatory along other required qualifications. But in Odisha, there is no provision of BEd for Commerce graduates. The OAVS has introduced Commerce education in its curriculum which is reflected in its sites.

Thousands of commerce graduate aspirants have slammed it as an injustice to them as they have no scope for applying for the teacher posts in Commerce. They have demanded that the advertisement be amended and necessary provisions be made to allow the Commerce graduates to apply for the posts.

Meanwhile, State Project Director of OAVS Sangram Keshari Mohapatra said any amendment required can be made by the Government after a deliberation on the issue.
