Coloured dustbin installed in B'pur

The Youth for Social Development (YSD), a city-based NGO working for children, has developed and installed a ‘tri-colour community dustbin’ at Phulasundari Street in Ward-18 in the city to collect garbage.

Bibhu Prasad Sahu of the YSD said there are three types of different dustbins, blue colour for food wastage, green colour for recycle wastage and red colour for harmful wastage. Communities have been mobilised to gather wastes in different bins in a proper way. The Brahmapur Municipal Corporation (BMC) would collect the waste from the bin at a regular basis, he added.

Sahu said the Child Club members and community groups of Phulasundari would monitor the entire system of collection and transportation through the ‘slum sanitation wall’, a monitoring tool for sanitation and report to the BMC health officer every week. “This model will make environment healthy and hygiene,” he added.

He said they have already installed a tri-colour dustbin at Ambapua slum and are planning to install other three dustbins with the help of the community.
