A 20-year-old girl, Pujarini Swain, committed suicide by consuming pesticide after casting her vote in the college election in Kendrapada district on Wednesday. She was a student of the Indupur-based Birupa College.
The girl, who had been staying at her uncle’s house in Charigharia, was rushed to the District Headquarters Hospital in a critical condition and she died while undergoing treatment.
Though the reason behind the girl committing suicide was yet to be ascertained, locals suspect that it might be either for failure in love or being frustrated over the defeat of her supported candidate in the Students’ Union poll.
Nikirai police station IIC Pradyumna Kumar Nayak said as per the preliminary investigation, it has been suspected that the girl, after losing her mental balance following the defeat of her supported candidate, might have committed suicide.
