Meanwhile, protesting the deteriorating law and order and rise in criminal elements in Puri, lawyers took to streets in the pilgrim city demanding immediate transfer of district SP Sarthak Sarangi.

The agitating lawyers staged a protest rally in front of the district Collectorate decrying the inefficiency of the district police chief in controlling the crime. The agitators also blocked the road burning tyres.

“Since his (Sarthak Sarangi) joining, seven-eight murders have been executed in Puri city. But police have failed to make any breakthrough in these cases,” said an agitating lawyer.

The aggrieved lawyers decided to boycott the court activities in the district for three-days.

“We have identified the miscreants. They are now absconding. We will nab them soon.” said Sarangi.

On Sunday evening, some miscreants hacked to death Sai Kutira Hotel owner and lawyer Chandan Behera in Puri.
