A Gopalpur-Digha coastal highway to be constructed under the Bharatmala Pariyojana would have a five km-long bridge over the Chilika, Asia’s largest brackish water lake.

A special meeting between senior officials of the National Highway Authority India (NHAI), project consultants and Puri district Collector Arvind Agarwal was held here on Friday in this connection.

Out of the 500 km highway to be built under the project, 151 km falls in Puri district.

The Collector during the discussions stressed on connecting Brahmapur and Mahisa villages to the bridge that would connect Satapada with Janhikuda. He further emphasised on connecting several bypasses to be constructed under the project to the National Highway.

The 500-km-long coastal highway which would start from Gopalpur would pass through Chhatrapur, Chilika, Satapada, Brahmagiri, Puri, Konark, Astaranga, Paradip, Ratapur, Satbhaya, Dhamra, Basudevpur, Talpada, Chandipur, Chandaneswar and end at Digha.
