After the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, the Fire Services Department conducted raids at several coaching centres across the State on Wednesday to check fire safety measures.
The inspection drive is being carried out in Odisha after a fire mishap at a Surat coaching centre claimed lives of over 20 students recently.
Around 50 teams of Fire Services personnel conducted the raids in Balangir, Bhadrak, Angul, Jharsuguda and Koaput districts.
The teams inspected whether the coaching centres have been issued fire safety certificates, installed the safety equipments to prevent any mishap and are following necessary guidelines to avoid any eventuality.
The fire officials also sensitised students of the institutes on various life saving and rescue techniques in time of unforeseen fire mishaps.
It was alleged that many of the coaching centres lack the required fire safety equipments, which make them vulnerable in case of a mishap.
