Maintaining that the State is aiming at providing the best technical knowledge and skill to its youth to compete in the global scenario, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday called upon the universities for expeditious steps for revision of curriculum and syllabus with thrust on soft skill development, industry exposure and interdisciplinary studies.
“The future technical education should focus on competency based learning, higher order reasoning, outcome based education, employable technical skill, work attitude, ethical practice and industry recognised credentials,” said Patnaik.
Patnaik was speaking at a workshop on ‘Present and future perspective of technical education’ here being organised by the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT).
Focusing on continuous innovation in the process of learning, Patnaik said special care should be taken for encouraging research and development activities in the institution to suit to needs of industry. The curriculum should also adhere to the non-negotiable academic calendar, he added.
Economic globalisation, technological innovation, industry-ready requirements and national policies are redefining knowledge and skill expectation in the present scenario. The changing scenario in the labour market, globalisation of jobs and international recognition of certification has required us to revisit our present strategies in technical education, Patnaik added.
With fast industrialisation and globalisation, the engineering and professional segments need to be treated differently to cater to the need for quality and skilled manpower, Patnaik further added.
Employment and Technical Education and Training Minister Sanjay Dasburma and BPUT vice chancellor among many attended the event.
