Maintaining that the relations between Odisha and Indonesia have been renewed over centuries and generations, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday said a direct flight from Bhubaneswar to Jakarta or Bali can be a potential game changer in cementing the ties for future generations.
He was speaking at the ‘Kalinga Indonesia Dialogue’, which was also attended by Governor SC Jamir and Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Ambassador of Indonesia in India Rizali Indrakesuma and Kalinga Indonesia Dialogue Chairman lalit Mansingh.
“The long list of commonalities that we share with Indonesia is not just confined to history. A strategic effort to move from commodities-driven economy to production and services and excellence in girls’ education that has resulted in the share of female school enrolment exceeding that of males at each level merits a closer look,” said Patnaik.
Stating that the societies in both Odisha and Indonesia are vulnerable to natural disasters and climate change and have pioneered disaster risk reduction, Patnaik said it is an area to share experiences and further innovate for the benefit of the entire world.
