CM urged to fund tribal girl's treatment cost

A city-based voluntary organisation, which works towards providing legal aid to poor and needy people of the society, has recently written a letter to Chief Minister seeking financial assistance to a five-year-old poor tribal girl for treating both her disable hands.

Nirasha Banra from a non-descriptive village in the tribal district Mayurbhanj has sustained severe burn injuries in both the hands rendering her completely disabled. While playing with her friends, she accidentally dipped her hands into a boiled rice water pot.

The girl was recently spotted by the volunteers of the Centre for legal Aid to Poor (ClAP) when they were conducting a public hearing at Ramasahi village of Jashipur block of Mayurbhanj district. “Due to financial constraints, the girl’s family could not provide proper treatment to her, as a result of which the girl has developed physical deformity in both her hands,” informed ClAP president Bikash Das.

Das said that relying on local traditional treatment the girl has also developed infections in various parts of her injured hands. Apprehending that proper treatment would not be available to the girl for her survival, Das brought her to Cuttack and admitted her to a private hospital having expertise in plastic surgery.

“The plastic surgeon has now suggested for immediate corrective surgery in multiple sittings that would cost over Rs one lakh,” Das said. He requested the CM to provide treatment cost from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
