A large number of intellectuals and other sections of residents of the capital city have been strongly advocating for BJD candidature for well-known historian and litterateur Prafulla Chandra Tripathy in any one of the three Assembly constituencies in Bhubaneswar, preferably Bhubaneswar North.

According to them, Tripathy is a deserving candidate to fight an Assembly seat here as he, being a noted researcher in fields like history, religion and culture, is associated with various social organisations and even knows the actual need of the denizens living in the city.

Tripathy has already earned the fame for being one of the front runners who made Sri Jayadeva and the Gita Govinda popular in the world. Despite being chairman of Sri Jayadeva Group of Educational Institutions operating in Bhubaneswar, his contribution to the coo--perative movement is also well marked.

This apart, he has authored nearly a dozen of Purana and literature books based on extensive studies.

His long association with Nirvana Pilgrim Society, Mirza Ghlib Raod, Kolkata, Buddha Research Society, Utkal University of Culture, Orissa State Museum, State Archives and State Archeology and Orissan Institute of Maritime and South East Asian Studies has also made him popular among the residents here.

Some intellectuals said they have already urged BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to allow Tripathy to fight an Assembly seat in view of his popularity and credibility as a dedicated litterateur and researcher.

“We propose the name of eminent historian, literaturist, social worker Prafulla Chandra Tripathy as your party candidate from any of Bhubaneswar’s three Assembly seats to provide him scope to fulfill all the desires of the State cultural revolution to make it world class UNESCO standardisation historical city,” said the intellectuals in the letter.
