Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik would unveil the Odisha Agriculture Policy-2013 on Akshay Tritiya, said Agriculture Minister Debi Prasad Mishra on Monday.
The decline in agricultural growth coupled with the decline in profitability in the agriculture sector in the face of the rapid growth of the non-farm sector is a major concern for which the Government has revised its agriculture policy.
The State Government had declared the first-ever Agriculture Policy in the year 1996. After more than a decade, the policy was revised in 2008. In course of these four years, it was felt that certain amendments are needed to remove the obstacles for a more effective implementation of the policy.
Taking in to account the potential for rural self-employment generation both for men and women, the fisheries and animal resources sector has been included in the new amended policy for enhancement of income generation opportunity, food and livelihood security of the rural poor.
