CM to review preparedness today

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday convened a meeting on Tuesday to take stock of the preparations to face the impact of the possible Cyclone Kyant.

Sources said Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Bijayashree Routray, Chief Secretary AP Padhi, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra, DGP KB Singh and other line department officials have been asked to remain present at the meeting to be held at the State Secretariat.

Collectors of 14 districts have also been called to the meeting. Meanwhile, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra advised farmers to keep their harvested crops covered in the yards.

“There is no need to panic at all due to Cyclone Kyant as the system might not have any impact at all on Odisha and may move towards Bangladesh as per the studies done by the IMD so far.” said Mohapatra.

If the system changes course, all preparatory measures are in place, asserted Mohapatra.

Hence, he advised the farmers to immediately harvest their paddy in the field and bundle it in next couple of days and keep it covered so that if it rains their crop won't get damaged.

He said the concerned district Collectors have also been directed to remain alert, and district-level control rooms have also been made operational.

Meanwhile, the Health Department has cancelled the leave of its officials and asked the CDMOs to open control rooms and keep necessary medicines in stock. A decision to this effect was taken after Health Minister Pradip Amat reviewed the possible impact of the cyclone.
