With the exposure of offensive activities of self-styled godmen and the incidents of people taking law into their hands over the issues, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday took stock of the State’s law and order situation at the Secretariat here.
Patanik, who reviewed the situation with Home Secretary Asit Tripathy, DGP Sanjeev Marik, Intelligence ADG Sunil Roy and Crime Branch ADG BK Sharma, mainly focused on the prevailing public ire leading to law and order situations.
Source said Patnaik inquired about the status of inquiries about the arrested Sarathi Baba and Sura Baba and his two sons.
However, officials including the Home Secretary and the DGP were tightlipped about what transpired at the meeting.
Alleging that the controversial spiritual leaders were doing their business with the Government patronage, people had taken law into their hands at Kendrapada and Jhiinti demanding arrest of Sarathi Baba and Sura Baba, respectively.
Even the mob ransacked the Trahi Achyuta ashram and torched about 20 vehicles in the presence of police personnel.
