CM suggests tripartite meeting on Sep 17

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday suggested the Union Water Resources Ministry to hold the proposed tripartite meeting between him, his Chhattisgarh counterpart Raman Singh and Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti on September 17over the Mahanadi water dispute.

Recently, Bharti invited the Chief Ministers of both the States to Delhi to discuss the matter between September 10 and 20 amid war of words between the two States over sharing of the Mahanadi water.

Prior to the meeting, Patnaik would review the State’s status on the Mahanadi with senior Government officials on September 12.

Meanwhile, the State Government claimed that the Chhattisgarh Government has given incomplete data on different projects being undertaken by it upstream the Mahanadi. Even though both Odisha and Chhattisgarh were agreed to share information about their proposals over the Mahanadi, both are accusing each other of not supplying adequate information to each other.

Earlier, the Centre had held another meeting on July 29 that was attended by the Chief Secretaries of both the State to find out a way to sort out the issue, but to no avail.
