Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has sanctioned an amount of Rs75,000 for treatment of Ayush doctor Pranati Barik (43), who is suffering from severe heart ailments and is in need of substantial amount money for advanced treatment.

According to her family, Pranati developed heart problem a year ago when she was posted at Timanpur in Nuapada district. As the disease required regular treatment, she got transferred to her home district Puri and worked at the Chhaitana Primary Health Centre (PHC) under Gop block.

However, she is no longer able to go to the PHC as she is bedridden and survives on oxygen support. Despite severe financial hardship, her family members took her to a private hospital in Bengaluru last year where an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) was planted in her chest.

Unfortunately, the ICD has now stopped working, causing serious breathing problems to her. last December, the family had sought help from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.

Further, acting on a complaint of rights activist Akhand, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued notices to the State Secretary of Health & Family Welfare Department and the Puri district Collector to take care of Pranati’ health. The commission had asked the concerned authorities to submit a report on her health conditions and treatment provided to her.
