In a belated move, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Wednesday summoned DGP Sanjeev Marik to the State Secretariat and reportedly reprimanded him for touching the feet of Daitapatis at public places during the Banajaga Yatra of lord Jagannath and His siblings though the top cop was in his uniforms.
Sources said Patnaik vented his ire against Marik and also warned him to respect the power and position of a senior police officer. During the hour-long meeting, Patnaik asked Marik to be careful so that such things don’t recur in future.
The CM’s warning came nearly two months after the incident in which the DGP was seen touching the feet of
two senior Daitapatis during his visit to the locations of lord Sudarshan’s Daru at Gadakhuntunia near Balakati on the outskirts of the capital city and Devi Subhadra’s Daru at Adhanga in Jagatsinghpur district.
Besides, the sources maintained that Patnaik asked Marik to ensure a peaceful Nabakalebar Rath Yatra.
