The State Government on Friday ordered a high-level administrative enquiry into death of a person in police firing at Chandpur in Nayagarh district on Thursday. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik asked the Revenue Divisional Commissioner (Central) to probe the incident and submit report within a month.

One person was killed and several others injured when the cops fired at some protesters who were demanding arrest of the culprits involved in murder of four members of a family at Shastrinagar under the Chandpur outpost in Nayagarh district on September 6.

On Friday, the Government shifted the Nayagarh SP to the Police Headquarters in the wake of the murder of four persons and subsequent police firing. In his place, Dhenkanal SP Manoranjan Mohanty was posted as the new Nayagarh SP.

Besides, Ranpur police station IIC Chandrashekhar Mohanty was suspended as the Chandpur police outpost comes under this police station.

While local people demanded strong action against the police officials involved in the firing, Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Jayadev Jena demanded a judicial probe into the incident. However, DGP Sanjeev Marik on Thursday announced Crime Branch probe into the gruesome murder. The CB on Friday started an enquiry into the murder mystery.
