Taking a stern view of the anomalies involving a sugar mill based in Doiwala, Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat has ordered a SIT probe.
It is learnt that during the crushing season 2016-17, eight bill books, given to the sugarcane growers against their produce, were missing.
The sugarcane growers from Dhanori/Jassowala and Tantawala had submitted the slips at outer purchase centre of the sugar mill based in Doiwala against purchase of the sugarcanes grown by them.
It is also learnt that the toll clerk (seasonal) Harbeer Singh, son of Prem Singh, had been tasked with issuing the slips for the bill book.
The bill books had gone missing while they had been kept under the custody of the sugarcane accountant Ramesh Kumar Singh. Things coming out into the open, the clerk Singh has been suspended with immediate effect for his alleged negligence while and a case has been lodged against Harbeer Singh.
Notably, Uttarakhand sugar federation general manager who had been appointed as the investigating officer has submitted its report to the State Government. Acting on it, CM has ordered the SIT inquiry, sources said.
Intriguingly, the toll clerk had not been shifted as per the practice of his being shifted every fortnight, a revelation that made the CM to take a serious view of the matter. Earlier, the sugarcane growers had apprised the CM of the anomalies that had been found in the mysterious disappearance of the slips.
