'CM must clarify on Hinjili poll spending'

Published on:

The BJP on Wednesday demanded clarifications from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik regarding the alleged illegal money transactions made by him during the 2014 election from his Hinjili Assembly constituency in Ganjam district.

“There is a huge difference between the election spending affidavit submitted to the Election Commission by Naveen Patnaik as a candidate for the Hinjili Assembly seat and his party BJD.

This is a violation of Representation of People’s Act. If proved, Patnaik’s Assembly membership can be scrapped and he may be restricted to fight election for three years,” said BJP vice-president Sameer Mohanty.

He wanted to know why the Chief Minister is silent of the sensitive issue and demanded him to give a clarification in this regard at the earliest.

Mohanty too demanded that Patnaik reveal sources of money deposited in the BJD’s SBI account 10091755246.

He alleged that the Chief Minister has filed a miss-case through the Ganjam Collector when a case has been filed against his name in the High Court.

He said the BJP would stage a dharna at the Ganjam district Collector’s office on Thursday.

Among others, party’s State secretary Kalandi Samal and spokespersons Sudipta Ray and Golak Mohapatra were present.
