CM has no right to observe Utkal Divas: NKS

The Navnirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS) on Sunday severely criticised the State Government for not responding to democratic agitations being held for development of farmers, protection of language and ensuring of total prohibition in the State.

“The Chief Minister has no right to hold the Utkal Divas as he has never responded to agitations held on three issues, Chasha (farming), Bhasha (Language) and Nisha (liquor consumption),” said NKS State convenor Sheshadev Nanda in a statement.

He alleged that the Government has sent agitating farmers to jails instead of fulfilling their demand of pension of Rs 5,000 per month. Similarly, the Prohibition Act 1956 has been put in dust bin.

No step has been taken for promotion and protection of Odia language during the 19 years, he alleged. Nanda further alleged that the Naveen Patnaik Government has only hoodwinked the poor people by introducing KALIA scheme and providing meals at Rs 5 in towns. “The BJD Government has not done any permanent solution to eradicate poverty,” he said.
