The World Clay Day was observed by hundreds of volunteers at Salandi at the Sahpur Hanuman Temple here on Sunday. This was the 10th consecutive time the day was observed here under the leadership of environmentalist and Supreme Court lawyer Radhakanta Tripathy.
Tripathy said the idea behind observing the day is to protect the sanctity and purity of soil, water and air as clay is an integral ingredient of environment having an important role in human life.
Besides, to recognise the importance and spread the idea of protection of environment through maintenance of purity in clay this day is held, he added.
Among others, human rights scholars Sitakanta Tripathy, Debasis Panda, Philips Bedi, Smrutiranjan, Kunjaban and Som Ashirbad were present.
